I wanted to share a little about some of the work I’ve been doing recently around bone health, and why it’s become such a meaningful focus for me both personally and professionally.
My interest in this area really deepened as I moved through menopause. Like many women, I became more aware that declining oestrogen levels can increase the risk of osteoporosis and affect long-term bone strength. That knowledge encouraged me to take a more proactive approach to my own health and wellbeing.
As part of that journey, I had a REMS bone scan, which showed osteopenia in my hip meaning my bone density is lower than average. While that initial result was a surprise, I was reassured to learn that my bone quality is good and my overall fracture risk is low. That distinction really mattered to me, and it shifted my focus from worry to action.
Since then, I’ve been making gentle, sustainable changes to my nutrition and exercise habits, and I’ve been learning as I go. It’s been a reminder that bone health isn’t something to suddenly think about later in life it’s something we can actively support at every stage. The great news is that bone is dynamic and we can influence bone density and improve bone strength.
I’ve recently started working with Cura Clinical in Bristol, who offer REMS scan technology. REMS is a safe, radiation-free method of assessing bone density, bone quality, and fracture risk. I think it’s a brilliant tool for helping people understand where they are right now, and for guiding sensible, personalised nutrition and lifestyle choices.
I’ve also partnered with women’s health fitness coach Vicki Hill to deliver a series of bone health talks designed to educate, empower, and inspire. Our first two sessions are taking place in May at The Family Practice in Bristol. If you’d like more information or to book, you can find it here: https://vickihill.co.uk/talks/
Alongside this, I’m now offering personalised 60-minute nutrition consultations focused on supporting strong, healthy bones through diet and lifestyle.
These sessions are ideal for anyone with osteopenia or osteoporosis, those navigating menopause, or anyone who simply wants to take a proactive approach to long-term bone health.
